its from the war when someone would be ready to fire there gun but they do it to soon there for there have jumped the gun

I didn't quite follow that answer, but then, I am tired.

Personally, I would have thought it was more to do with racing, when an athlete, in anticipation of the starting pistol firing, set off too soon.
