My Sister had gone in with a friend, and her friend was caught Shoplifting, but my Sister got implicated as well. Mum said "Don't you dare mention that store in this house" or words to that effect.
We used to have Sainsbury's when they were proper grocer's shops, with sides of bacon hanging up around the walls, and tins of biscuits with glass lids. Butter being patted into shape with wooden pats.
My mother would go up to Selfridges in Oxford Street and buy material for curtains and to make pyjamas (after unstitching a worn out pair to use as a pattern).
Working in the City of London I used to use one of the ABC (Aerated Bread Company) restaurants for lunch. Oh those were the days!
