Thriftys - a mainly M&S outlet shop in the 1980s, not sure if it was just local though.
A couple of weeks ago, I nearly got my head bitten off for mentioning a store called Tip Top (The forerunner to Superdrug I guess) - they were sited in a couple of locations in Stockton. My Sister had gone in with a friend, and her friend was caught Shoplifting, but my Sister got implicated as well. Mum said "Don't you dare mention that store in this house" or words to that effect.
Has anyone mentioned Ratners jewellers? I got my wedding ring from there, and it wasn't rubbish as everyone thought, my ring is still going strong 46 years old this September!
Home and Colonial
What about the Scoop shops - where everything like flour, sugar, cornflakes were stored loose in large bins and you served yourself.
^^ Home and Colonial after a series of mergers is still around today with a more PC name Safeway .
Ann we used to have one here, it was called weigh and save, sadly no more.
I thought Safeways became Morrisons Eddie?
We used to have Sainsbury's when they were proper grocer's shops, with sides of bacon hanging up around the walls, and tins of biscuits with glass lids. Butter being patted into shape with wooden pats.

My mother would go up to Selfridges in Oxford Street and buy material for curtains and to make pyjamas (after unstitching a worn out pair to use as a pattern).

Working in the City of London I used to use one of the ABC (Aerated Bread Company) restaurants for lunch. Oh those were the days!
My Mum and I used to go to the Sainsburys in Cambridge. You queued up for meats and cheese.
