He got in the SH for using the word "slope" last month, now some mumblings may have sounded like the verbotten word. Someone got into hot water last year for using the entirely urelated word "niggardly". I think most are not racist, is it really necessary to leap on even the tiniest of slips/mistakes/misunderstandings ?

the N version is what we always used at school. Anyone remember Guy gibsons dog? no one thought anything of it. I think the hysterics it generates now are what have turned it into the atomic word bomb, it was common place even among blacks when I was a nipper.

Do you remember when shoes were advertised in the shop window a N....brown, no offense was intended it was just a colour. It's not that long ago.
I suppose, Naomi, that it could be looked on as a blackout.

Slope as a derogatory term came to my attention through books and films on the Vietnam war. Yes, THAT long ago.

So 'Slope' is a rascist word ? I've only heard it used to describe a hill or as a mathmatical term.

I think my answer removed speaks for its self. They can say what they like but I must be pc. I'm off to bed.
(it's because of Asians' "sloping" eyes)

For goodness sake when will all this end? we sang the rhymes and had gollywogs to play with, but none of it was offensive. They have just been words to us that we grew up with, I have never been racist towards anyone ever!
I am really surprised that we are still allowed to refer to a Lancashire town as
'' Manchester'' should it not be called ''Personchester'' ?
