google earth

has anybody downloaded google earth ? it says that it's possible to zoom right down to view your street,house etc, i've been trying to do this but can't seem to zoom in as close as they reckon you can! am i doing something wrong? has anybody else tried this site ? any help greatly appreciated.

Doubt you're doing anything wrong! have a look at Central London and if thats ok you've done everything you can. A lot of the pictures aren't that good in close up and some are really quite old. Morrisons have had a supermarket near me for 10 years or more but it's not on there!

I agree, we live in Great Yarmouth and the quality is rubbish. But we can see other places fine. I also think it is down to the area you are in.

...I am deleighted with my home patch but not all areas are as detailed by far..........not that my house is in a well known area either....I don't know what the criteria is for an area to be really detailed. I can see my house and garden and even some detail of my garden layout...if you want to check then type in my Post Code...it is S740BE......that is zeroBE I was really amazed..........commoner.

A lot of it is still low resolution but it�s being updated all the time. Being American they�re prioritising the US (look at NY and they�ve got the outline and height of the buildings if you tilt) but it�* *** or miss if you live in a �high resolution� area over here. As camioneur says there are a lot of old photos on there, the Morrisons near me is still showing as wasteland!

If you look at Athens you can see that all the Olympic venues are still building sites. Although to be honest that wasn't that long before the Games.

I first downloaded GE about 6 months ago. When I looked at the Isle of Wight, I'm pretty sure that only Newport and Cowes were in high res. Now the whole of the island is in High res so hopefully it is an ongoing process. At the moment I'm unlucky enpugh to live in a low res area.

if you take the "terrain" option off, you should get a much clearer view. messing around with the options taught me this!!! :D

For Camioneur, not Scunny ( Scunthorpe I presume?)
I�m out in the Kent countryside and where the �new� (2yo) Morrisons is located is the closest high resolution area for me to go snooping on the �neighbours�!!
