I am 7 weeks pregnant and have had to give up on the folic acid tablets as they were making me really sick, does anyone know what foods I can top up on that are high in folic acid as I really want to keep my intake boosted, thanks in advance x x

i was really ill too at the start of my pregnancy too.i had to stop takin folic acid too.i'm not a dr so i can't really say but i used to eat loads of gingernut biscuits and loads of bananas, grapes and strwabs.
strawbs,sorry.
Lots of liver and plenty of greens:-)

Orange and tomato juices
Oranges
Fresh strawberries
Banana
Grapefruit
Spinach
Asparagus
Brussels sprouts
Green peas
Broccoli

Also liver and kidney, (note - liver is not always recommended for pregnant women though), papaya, kiwki fuit, Bovril, baked beans, wholemeal bread, Marmite, cabbage and brown rice.

Cook vegs by steaming or microwave them to keep the nutrients in them as high as possible, rather than roastin or boiling.

General info on care at: http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/asksam/agesandstages/pregnancy/ from the Food Standards Agency site.

I think also spinach.

Thanks I will get shopping right away!!! x x

If you were taking folic acid just for the baby, well... from what I have read and talked to my OBGYN about.... It only matters how much folic acid you had in your system before you were pregnent.. It would not really make that much of a diff now... I could go on and get scientific on the this.. but ... na..... You can look it up ... But remember not everything you read online is true.. Talk to your Dr...

Congrats on your baby!!! and GOOD LUCK!!! Jen
