Overactive Thyroid
2 Answers
Hi All, I was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid about 6 weeks ago (for the second time) and I am running a 5k next month so have been exercising.
Does anybody know if exercise can make the thyroid levels worse? I went running on Friday (not far) and I spent Saturday and Sunday on the sofa just absolutely exhausted. I have also been doing a low carb diet.
I have had a blood test this morning and will be getting the results on Friday, but in the meantime I am wondering if I should continue with the training this week?
Thanks in advance.

One of those controversial topics in Medicine and one can choose one's study to support one's thinking on this.
The predominant opinion seems to be that severe exercise can increase the level of TSH but this will not be affected by the ezxercise that you had on Friday.

I would await the result of the TSH and also ask the opinion of my Dr, as also one has to consider, should your TSH be low, what treatment is envisaged.
Sort your thyroid problem out, before you consider a 5K run.
