People attacked the EDL because they were a bunch of racist thugs. Even Tommy Robinson left the group admitting that this was true.

UKIP is a totally different kettle of fish. It may have happened but I certainly dont recall hordes of shaven skinheads on their marches.
Many who use the facist and racist term for UKIP are afraid of them, very afraid of the obvious fact they represent the views of a lot of people who have been ignored by the mainstream parties. They are a slap in the face for right-on liberalism, and the chattering classes hate them for it.
