If you bought yourself a television nowadays and it was a good make and you only have it turned on in the evenings, how long would you expect it to last for? Our television is six and a half years old and as suddenly given up the ghost. Should we expect ot to last longer?

It depends, I guess, how much you paid for it, if it's a good brand, and what's "gone" on it.

I have a 32 inch Samsung LCD and I fully expect it to outlast me !

I would think that's pretty average these days. I'm afraid the days of buying something that lasts half a lifetime are long over.

It is a Sony and we paid £1,000 for it. Televisions are an awful lot cheaper now.

There have been a lot of advances in TVs since you bought that one , a new one now is just one very large intigrated circuit. When they go that is it no repair is possible.

Gosh - thats nearly 40p per day plus the cost of running it when it is switched on.
