Can't believe what's happening at Glasgow School of Art. There's been a major fire and the library and museum have been destroyed. Presume many pieces of unique CR Mackintosh art nouveau furniture have been destroyed.

Have any ABers been on a tour of the building?

But it wasn't a just a building - it was a creation.

Mackintosh designed the whole thing - the building and every interior detail, down to the door handles and light shades. It was one of the few surviving examples of his complete, and unique, art nouveau vision. Look it up.

The building can be recreated but it'll never be the same.

Many Glaswegians never understood fancy art. But they did understand and loved and were proud of the Art School, just off Sauchiehall Street.
many of the students have lost their course work. sorry wolf, but it cant be rebuilt. it is totally unique building outside and in.
I agree with anne, it's a stunning building and I feel not only for McIntosh fans but for those students as well.....for them it must be a heck of a shock. At least they are safe.

However, it's a tragic loss for Glasgow's art legacy.
I saw a programme on TV about Macintosh and it showed the room, it was absolutely brilliant every peice of furniture and the setting was perfect. I love the art nouveau style and I am saddened to think it has all been destroyed.
Why can't reporters get things right!

Rant over!
Firefighters who were at the scene within four minutes of receiving the first emergency control brought the flames under control and said more than 90 per cent of the structure was “viable”.

Indications suggest they were able to save up to 70 per cent of the contents, according to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
very sad.
