Notice in that sample of the list of investors that the Town of Glasgow put 3000 pounds into the venture. That would have been a tremendous amount of money back then I imagine.

No-one from the Scottish hoi polloi was involved in the Darien Scheme, nor will you see one of their signatures on The Declaration of Arbroath for that matter, but times have changed.

Well, I thought that it was a really interesting piece of history despite any political animosities that may exist between certain factions in the UK today.
There is no political independence with out economic independence,
Karl Marx was to say a few centuries later ....

The Darien scheme ruined the Scots economy big time....
