"A little compromise on both sides... "
Yes, how's this for a compromise. The groom and all the guests concentrate on the wedding celebrations. Those who feel it necessary to watch a second rate football match which will almost certainly be as tedious as most other football matches are should decline the invitation to the wedding and go with their like minded souls to the pub.

Well in September 2003, my lad was getting married on the same day Ricky Hatton had a big fight against Aldo Rios. Knowing my son was a massive fan of Hatton (even their cat was called Hatton), I contacted Frank Warren, the promoter's office, never really expecting a reply. I was in work when the phone rang and it was somebody from Frank Warren.TV who gave me a short interview about my son i.e. how long he'd been a fan, where the wedding venue was, what his fiancee's name was etc etc. Anyway, Hatton did a radio interview and the interviewer told him about my son and the wedding and he wished the happy couple all the best. I still have the recording. Frank Warren.TV also sent a message from Ricky to the hotel which was read out at the reception. My son and everyone else was amazed. It was so special. The hotel where they had the reception wasn't showing the fight, so we went across to the pub over the road to watch!!! We sent the office some wedding cake as a thank you. So if you ask in the right place, you never know.
10ClarionSt,
That was going to be my second point of reference too because my sister was in Manchester on the day.
She was taking an exam for her TEFL course prior to taking up a job in Japan.
She subsequently lived in Ealing some years later in the street next to where an IRA car bomb exploded.
It's always been a joke between us that with my service in HM Forces we've had our fair share of near misses with the PIRA!

If I was the guy, I'd be having a massive rethink! Not even married yet and she's already dictating what he can and can't do on the wedding day. He's been married before and should have the sense not to put up with her childish demands. He needs to make a stand now, or the whole thing will be over in 6 months!
