After dealing with some of the aftermath of this last night in work:

I implore you all as motorists, motorcyclists and cyclists to drive and ride safely and responsibly over the summer. Whilst on shift we were made aware of a third fatality so please people, take it easy.

I think it is a bit of a shock, to see young men - so dead and so quickly....
In terms of horrific videos a pal is videoing his fren' somewhere in Cornwall at 120 mph when a car pulls out, clips him and ....
that is the end of the motor cyclist....
U tube somewhere with the permission of the parents...

Thanks LJ.
Without wishing to sound too harsh, after a while one does become de-sensitised to it, you just do your best and get on with it. It's a bit different with children involved in such incidents, thankfully they are very few and far between.
It's seeing families arrive at the hospital that's the hardest, the total shock and bewilderment they go through. Yesterday a few young men left their homes for a Sunday afternoon ride and some won't be going home, which is dreadfully tragic.
Take it easy folks, get there safely.

I wish more people would take that advice. At times I am glad that I don't drive with some of the drivers I've seen on the roads, have been in numerous near misses while on buses and seen one cyclist after a fatal road collision and helped another after he was sent flying through the air after colliding with a car. He was very lucky given the impact and lack of a helmet, injured but could have been far worse.
It's awful to see the amount of inappropriately dressed/kitted out cyclists on a major route into the city, no helmets, long flowing garments, headphones, no hands, two on a bike etc... It's a major accident spot and another young cyclist was killed just down from me quite recently.
Some people just don't seem to read the road properly, a junction by me, a crossroads, has clear give way signs but I've seen quite a few crashes and can often hear the screech of brakes and cars swerving to avoid each other as some are just not reading the road signs.
Lots of trail bikes and quad bikes being ridden round the roads here at the moment, accident waiting to happen, some don't even look old enough to drive.

Peter, I would disagree with you that it was not the biker's fault. If that speedo is correct it would appear he was not only breaking the law but increasing his chances of an accident. A sad price to pay for him and his family. I thought that some of the overtaking by the other biker left a lot to be desired. It must be nigh impossible to correctly judge the speed of oncoming traffic with relatively short distances of vision.
