dishwasher problem

I have a Bosch dishwasher and it seems like it only works when it wants to. When it does work it does the dishes perfectly but when it doesnt it makes a monotounous sound like its doing something but when you open it up at the end nothing has been done and the tablet is half desolved its really puzzling because I dont do anything different to start it but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. its about 3 years old any ideas??

Do you have the manual still? I had a dishwasher (bosch or siemens) that was a pain in the botty due to it having a wee magnetic float to regulate water intake ( this was located under the big filter in a pull off chamber that had an access top about the size of a ten pence piece) I could stand it's abuse no more when it spewed water over my floor for two hours. I digress, sorry, if this float has build up on it, the machine will not function properly. I had to pay a call out charge to find this out!

I still have the manual and will have a look for it thanks for that as I am sick to death of opening it up only to find that I have to get it all out and wash it by hand and its a 12 place setting one so its an absolute nitemare!

I had exactly the same thing with my Bosch and the problem was that float thing. Luckily my son was able to mess around with it and find the cause of the trouble. Hard water (limescale) build up had caused it to malfunction.

make sure the timer doesn't get set just a little past the point that the water comes in on. mine does that if i'm a slightly out. one less click can make a difference.
