The D-Day Invasion hastened Germany's defeat -- but by then it was already clear who was winning, so it would be the aftermath more than anything else that was affected. How many more tens of thousands of people died along the way; how far Russia drove into Europe, and so on. Before D-Day the Allies had already got as far into Europe in the East as the borders of omdern-day Poland, and in the South as far as Rome, and the war in Asia was turning the way of the Allies too. D-Day was not essential to win the war, although it helped a lot.
