'the Complainers'

I always felt sorry for people treated badly by large organisations, but what a shower of complainers Channel 4 managed to gather for their programme tonight!

At least two of them would be better off concentratin g on having a good shower, hair wash and cleaning up the sqaulor they live in rather than complaining. The Manchester complainer might be better to concentrate his efforts on food companies whose products appear to have contributed to the obesity of his wife.
I switched on because I thought I would be watching an informative programme on how to deal with large companies when problems arose.
But it turned out to be about people on ego trips. I don't know who was the worst - maybe 'meter man'. I couldnt believe it when the offer was made to have his meter changed, and he refused! The only reason I can think he did it, was to prolong his 'agony'. After four years he didn't want to have anything resolved! I also got the impression that he damaged the meter in the first place.

These shows always have to balance providing something believeable, with providing good tv, and I think they struck the balancew about right.
The 'electricity' guy was just a sad case - he refused to have his meter replaced, and when he queried his four-figure account, the complaints team lady said that someone had been ringing up giving them meter readings!
The retired Rabi was just inreasonable, and did nothing to destroy the stereotype about old Jews being barking moaners.
The Scouse bore was just on some sad ego trip - referring to people 'hearing from his legal team' and relishing his argument to his girlfriend who looked singularly unimpressed.
Shan't bother watching again - I have worked in BT accounts - the real thing was bad enough!

Like you I worked in the accounts dept in a large organisation. In my case it was in a building society dealing with current accounts.
What used to drive me up the wall was customers continually ringing up saying, 'You haven't paid my Direct Debit'. I had to tell them that we didn't pay Direct Debits, the money for payment had to be withdrawn by the organisation that required it!
It was only Standing Orders that we paid out on behalf of our clients instructions.
But compared with what I saw last night, what I dealt with was a piece of cake!

Wiltsman - what got to me was the assumption the telephone service is not only as essential as oxygen, it is also a god-given right, paid for or not!
Trying to convince people that I was not leaving them with service to continue to run up a bill they already couldn't pay used to start some major rows!!
