Is it compulsory to have a home buyers report drawn up when selling your house. My son is buying my mothers house so I did not know if you had to have one, and is it possible to use the same solicitor as there is only one property involved, does anyone know we are trying to keep costs down as much as possible
In England you don't need to have a home buyers report done when selling (HIPS were scrapped), but, as a buyer you'd want to be getting a survey done and a mortgage company will probably insist on it, if it's a cash purchase it's up to you.
Solicitors are allowed to act for both parties when it is unlikely that any conflict of interest will arise through them doing so. (When I sold a piece of my garden to a neighbour we used the same solicitor).
Any mortgage lender will require a valuation survey.
