Midsomer Murders

In an attempt to get away from the football I've been watching old episodes of Midsomer Murders on ITV3. When I first saw last night's offering, 'Fit for Murder' I'm sure it introduced Neil Dudgeon at the end, as the next DCI. But yesterday there was no sign of him. He is on the Imdb cast list for the episode. Did they re-record the ending for some reason? If so, why?

There were two endings...it seems Neil was at the one with the birthday party.
