I think it's the aspartame (artificial sweetner) which has been linked to cancer.
I too used to drink it all the time but gave it up almost overnight. It can be done. I think I've had maybe a dozen cans in the past three or four years...
In other some English-speaking countries, Diet Coke cans bear the warning "Not suitable for children". If it's not suitable for children in those countries, why isn't this warning on cans in the UK, I ask myself.
There are very many reports that the Aspartame in Diet Coke can cause all kinds of health problems, up to and including heart arrest. (Aspartame was passed as suitable for consumption against the wishes of both the US Food & Drug Agency, and the WHO). Some airlines even prohibit their pilots from drinking Diet Coke - what does that tell you?
I hate to admit but all I have drunk since I was about 10 is Coca cola and Ribena - I drink nothing else Id rather not know what it has done to by insides, my teeth and still intact although my enamel has been replaced.
If ever you read the side of a Coca Cola can it says: 139 calories (kcal) per 100ml can is 330ml and the recommended daily (kcal) for women is 2000 - I would say on average I go through about 6 a day - how bad is that, my poor insides.
Greedyfly- If what you are saying is correct, then a can of coke has about 400 Cals....? If you have about 6 a day then 2400 cals a day (more than your recommended daily allowance) is going on Coke alone. So a huge proportion of what you are putting into your body in order for it to run, and repair itself, is sugar, caffeine and god knows what.
I suggest you cut down! I would also question why the US government has not banned the stuff. Could it be that it is OWNED by Coca Cola? Or that coke constitutes a high percentage of it's income???!?!?!?!?
