Mrs Overall's Whitby
40 Answers
We had the greatest pleasure to visit Whitby yesterday. We went to the Abbey, the harbour (for fish and chips obviously) a walk around the narrow streets and a ride on the open top bus, all in glorious sunshine.
We were actually in staying in Scarborough for the Status Quo concert at the Open Air Theatre. Enjoyed Scarborough, but Whitby was gorgeous.
Mrs Overall, you're a lucky lady living in such a lovely place.

I did want to get a fish from the award winning fish & chip shop but the queue was about a mile long so we went to one a bit further up called Terry's - quite apt really as OH is called Terry too - and the fish was LUSH.
I am glad you had a good time & I hope you enjoyed Quo. Scarborough is a dump and some Polish friends of mine who visited the town said it reminded them of Poland in the communist era. (I hope seadogg doesn't read that)
Sqad must have been at the ibuprofen again as he is talking utter rubbish. I DO live in Whitby and have no intention of moving.
Corylus, thanks for your very kind words xx

Good morning Venator. I have never seen kitting ladies in the market. Are you referring to a building further up the street where there are stalls that sel knitted ganseys (fishermen's jumpers)?
Yes, the kipper house is still a thriving business & the smell of them smoking is glorious. The only problem they have is that they are situated under the cliff where St Mary's churchyard is. Whenever we have heavy rain bits of the cliff collapse and the kipper house regularly has bits of ancient skeletons landing on their roof. They had a leg bone landing on their roof with a thud just recently
