The sound was working fine yesterday. Have tried switching off and on again! Doesn't make any difference. Its completely silent. Checked control settings and the sound is up high, but no noise. checked all the leads, (its plugged into the mains) Can anyone help. Would be very grateful.
Click on your speaker symbol probably along bottom of your laptop this will open up your speaker, if it is muted it will show like a small no entry sign, click on it to unmute it. It should also show muted and the no entry sign when you hover over the speaker symbol. Hope this helps.
Does one of your F keys have a speaker symbol ? If so, try pressing the Fn + the relevant F key at the same time. (On mine - an Acer Aspire - it's F8.)
Does your laptop have a speaker symbol somewhere along the bottom of the computer, possibly near your battery and internet symbols. If so the no entry sign will show if it is muted. Also if you hover over the symbol it will say muted if it is. Click on the symbol which will then open up a slider scale showing the volume from low to high. If the speaker is muted it will show the no entry sign at the bottom of the scale. Click on that to unmute it. That is how mine is.
As Ouzel has said, look for a key on the top row. Mine has a speaker on the key which is illuminated when muted. I would just have to press the key to unmute it.
My laptop is a Sony Vaio. I tried the FN thing, it didn't work. Its definately not muted, as there is not a no-entry sign on the speaker settings. There is a solid line and its up to 82%. Going to sign off now and try and sort it tomorrow.
Thanks for your help
To see if your problem is similar to mine, try playing a song using WMP. When I had this problem, when I tried playing WMP, I got an error message (see the link in my previous post) and a red cross would appear next to the song I was trying to play.
