Windows Phone 8.1 need me to confirm my Hotmail account by entering a 5 digit code they send me. Unfortunately they are sending it to a Freeserve address which is not mine and I cannot see any option given for me to change it. Any ideas will be gratefully received . Tel

How do you know they are sending it to a freeserve account?
Are you sure you are using the correct hotmail address - perhaps yours is similar to the one that has the freeserve account linked to it.
I once had an occasion with my gmail account where someone in America had a similar address to mine and they created a facebook account using my address - I had great pleasure in deleting the facebook account (I did let one of their contacts know that they were using my address) and seeing the repeated password reset requests. I don't have or want facebook.

I had the same problem a few days ago, Microsoft were sending the security code to an email address I no longer had.
However after some playing around I was able to ADD a new "security" email address (and they sent me an email for me to confirm it was mine).
I was then able to go in and remove the old security email address which was replaced by the new security email address.
Unfortunately I cant remember exactly how I did it (which I know is not much help to you) but at least you know it can be done.
Just play around with the various options and you should eventually be able to do it.
I have worked in computers for about 40 years and I have to say this security that Microsoft have put round their email is the most complex I have ever seen and I think will just drive people away from using their email systems.

Hi Tuvok, The address they are sending it to is not on phone are any other equipment I have (i.e. Tablet PC etc) It clearly states the address and gives no option to change. There is no similarity between the address they use and my address.
Hi VHG.... I wish your memory was better than mine so you could remember how to add a new security address in order to get the required 5 digit code. As you say, they have made things so complicated. If you do happen to remember then please let me know. My Windows 8 phone (Lumia 625) was fine until I updated to Windows 8.1. Now I have 14 app updates sitting waiting for the necessary 5 digit code and I can't get any that I additionally required. Thanks for any following advice guys. Tel

You need to sort things quickly because you could become permanently locked-out from your Hotmail account if seven days elapse from the date you were requested to confirm matters.
