I'm one of the unfortunate ones that cannot have a sky dish on my property, I have friends and family that have Sky+ and I'm very jealous, does anyone know if NTL have plans of bringing something like Sky+ out or would it be wise to invest in a DVD hard drive recorder would that be the same kinda thing.

ntl haven't announced any plans to do anything like Sky+ - the best they can offer is their On Demand service, which is essentially a huge list of movies, tv progs, music vids & porn that you can access whenever you want (except the porn which you're only allowed to watch between 10pm & 5.30 am - what about people who work nightshifts eh?).

A handful of the titles are free but you have to rent the majority of the titles but you get to watch them as oftne as you like in any one 24 hour period. After all, we all like to watch the same episode several times during the same day don't we..? You can pause, fast forward & rewind through each programme you've hired but that feature is about the only one that resembles Sky+

Actually, NTL do have something similar to Sky+ in the works, but (like everything they do) it seems to be a long time coming.
try telewest...
trust me ,your missing nothing on sky,its shyte. i'm getting shut of mine soon.nowt but adverts and poker channels and endless repeats of only fools and horses. get yerself a digibox instead.
Telewest & ntl are now the same company - they're now known as ntl:Telewest

Ntl is the worst decision i ever made in my life, its sh*t!!

I wouldn't touch NTL with a bargepole. If you just want a few extra channels, I think Freeview is very good now.
get ntl get a chipped box then you have every premiership plus match every film and all the porn
I think that people are missing the fact that bubba seems happy with the programming; what he seems to want is the PVR functionality of Sky+. It may be that NTL either release their equivalent or use Telewest's already available box, but it may be some time before this happens.
Hi sky without a doubt, tried ntl and it was awful

Thanks to all of you that answered, especially LeMarchand you seemed to get what I meant.Theres lots of pros and cons to both but i feel that i'm missing out on the functions of Sky+ ie pause and rewind live tv series link record ect.do dvd recorders with hard drives have these kind of things or should i save my money and wait it out for NTL to catch up.
bubba gump, don't hold your breath, ntl losing too many customers to sky, to put money into new technology!
ntl must be desperate, i lad i work with never paid his NTL bill and they cut him off, a while went by and a ntl rep told him to change his last name on the paperwork, hey presto, he is watching NTL again!!
Apparently NTL will be launching an HD STB with a PVR anytime between the end of August 2006 and the end of 2007.
NTL need to keep up with technology if they want to keep their customers!
