Itchy Eye?

I've had an itchy eye for a few days which I think may be linked with me having a desk fan close to it. It's now red and I wake up with lots of sleep in the eyelashes. Is this an infection or should Optrex sort it out?

It sounds like an infection.

Monitor the situation for the next 3 or 4 days and if it gets worse or doesn't improve after that time......see your GP.

Optrex is a good standby for the time being.

Scarlett, I have a similar problem - I bought eye drops specifically for Itchy Eyes (Optrex do one) and the optician recommended putting a dose in before I go to bed as well as in the day. It's helped a lot.

It's also very watery, so not sure if Optrex will hit the spot? I will get some tomorrow anyway. Thanks!

Watery and itchy might be an allergy. Try hay fever eye drops.

I had this a couple of months ago. It turned out to be a stye, right down inside my lower lid.
Have you had a look to see if there is a swelling?. I got cream from the docs and it cleared up in few days.

You can also get over the counter low dose Chloramphenicol antibiotic eyedrops, I've used them in the past when I've thought it was an infection.

I use hypromellose drops , for my itchy eyes, which are very cheap and can be bought from any chemist. Keep them in the fridge for increased soothing power.

Mine's like that too, scarlett - I wake up with a crusty dribble from the outer edge of the eye. It's stopped since I'm using those drops.

Go to the pharmacist and show him/her and ask for Chloramphenicol eye ointment as already suggested here. I had an infection similar to yours and it worked a treat within 24 hours it was much better. But you must finish the dose and use it for about 5 days.

Do not ignore it, nor bother with Optrex, straight to the chemist.
