ive got a 1989 peugeot 205. bodywork is immaculate. the brakes need doing and ive got a horrible feeling the discs might need replacing, cos ive been putting it off so long. the mot is due in march, which i dont expect it to pass, but im sure theres nothing serious wrong with it. i dont have any money really. should i pay to get the brakes done or just scrap it and look for another 200 car to run into the ground? guess i could do with an idea how much it would cost to fix the brakes and discs if you can advise?
I had a pug 309 until last week which I only got rid of as I needed a bigger car. I recently fitted new discs and pads which I got from a car parts company formily known as Cafco. The parts only cost me about 45 so I fitted them myself. As you say these early Pugs are extremly resistant to rust and mine had no rust at all. I would personally get the work done if thats all thats wrong with it. People always say it's time for a new car when something goes wrong on an older car then but this is only true if you can get something better for the same amount of money it would cost you to put your's right. If you only spend 200 pound then the car will be of an age where it will be prone to problems and rust which is a pain to get sorted. Better the devil you know as they say. IMO
Hey wooahh!! Your 205 is surely past banger stage. If the body is as good as you say, then it is on the up value wise, as a classic.
They are getting rare now and its not only the GTis that are sought after.
I say keep it and repiar properly and reap rewards in the future.
