Neighbours boxer dog?

My neighbours boxer is always attacking my jack russel. My jack russel which i walk, and i always keep it on a lead just in case, he is scared of everything anyway so wouldnt hurt a fly, but my neighbour has this boxer dog obviously alot bigger then my dog and the boxer is never kept on a lead, and it always attacks my dog whenever they come near each other. The owner takes no resposability and says it my dogs fault, but the boxer has made my dog bleed before. What can i do?

It is a criminal offence for owners not to keep their dogs under control so report it to the police and if you dont want to be this confrontational get your hands on some type of obnoxious spray and whenever the Boxer comes near your dog give a taste of it.

As allen63b says, your neighbour is commiting an offence. Personally, I would ring the police (or the RSPCA) and ask their advice on how to handle this. They may well go round and have a word with your neighbour.

I do feel sorry for you. I hope you can sort it out.

I had this problem a few years ago with a neighbour who had a Bull Mastiff which attacked and knocked my dog flying and bruised him which meant trips to the vet to have the bruise drained and a hefty vets bill. I made him pay the bill. He coughed up but continued to let this agressive dog run amok. My dog was always on his lead.It then bit my dog in the chest ..more vets etc. I rang the Dog warden in the end and he came round and had a word with this chap .He was really helpful and and managed to diffuse what could have been an explosive situation ,as I was extremely annoyed.
You can but give it a try.Dog wardens don't just round up strays.They can give you some really helpful advice.They also have the wherewithal to impound this dog if they think it is causing a nuisance and is aggressive.And they will monitor the offender.It does depend on where you live of course and what resources your local council have regarding dog wardens.
Failing that then a visit to the police.Just the threat of the police may make your neighbour realise he has to keep the dog under control.
Also if the dog injures your dog again take photos of the injuries and get receipts from the vet just in case you do have to pursue it further.

You should keep a diary or report all the incidents straight away. Otherwise, without sufficient evidence all they can do is have a word, which doesn't always get through! You could also try carrying a pet corrector spray when you go out. This makes a loud hissing noise which most dogs are put off by. Be sure not to press to early or too late as it wont have an effect!
