A hand raised costs nothing.
Talking of our road - what really pees me off is when I am parallel parking, ignorant drivers (particularly taxi drivers, here) who persist in driving right up to my bumper while I am trying to reverse into the kerb. No pressure, then.

So joeluke you raise your hand and acknowledge drivers obeying the Highway Code. Does this include raising your hand to cars waiting at a junction to emerge into a main road as you pass - does it include raising your hand to the front car waiting to enter a roundabout as you pass on the roundabout - does it include drivers at a red light when you pass on green - etc etc etc - must make your arm ache after a bit. And if it doesn't why do you pick out this one particular case ?
canary......your examples are at junctions/red lights and so are not relevant to the issue
I'm talking about acknowledging someone on the open road where the road markings/red lights are not dictating you stop
black cat........only if they allow you to continue your journey by stopping due to an obstruction on their side of the road
