Godparents

We are having a Church of England christening but the people we want as godparents are Scottish. If they are catholic could they still be godparents, or would they have to be Protestant? Or will neither do?? It's confusing as they are all Christian religions.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.A godparent is supposed to ensure the child is taught the faith into which it is indoctrinated (baptised) If the baptism is done in a C Of E church then I would presume a Catholic would not be able to do that, but I think a protestant would. Catholics are affiliated to Rome and the Pope, Protestants aren't so I think there would be a problem. Best ask the Vicar that one
