I know where the answer comes from. What I am asking is where is xanthium defined in the clue. Every cryptic clue should have the definition of the answer in the clue somewhere. Sloppy clue setting by the Guardian, which should know better ! The Rev. must be turning in his grave.

I do not have the crossword, so I supposing that its one of those that says that some of the clues are not defined ? Popular in the Guardian a few times of the year.

I haven't been doing the Guardian crosswords much lately. I have won their crappy prizes twice in the last 2 years and I just wish they would change them once in a while. A nice posh pen would be most welcome.
