e.g. say we convince naillit that it's only a bruise but it turns out to be a hairline fracture which breaks when he runs down a flight of stairs, causing bleeding or worse?
The only valid answer for these Qs is "dial 999", "go to A & E", or "see your GP", depending on the level of urgency.

thanks for replies guys. I posted initially on here because I didnt want to sit in A&E for hours unnecessarily. As it happens my family turned up and they called an ambulance. Had an egg sized bump on shin and couldnt move toes. Also foot turned slightly purple. Paramedics decided best get it checked at hospital.
Had xray and thank god, no fractures, just soft tissue damage. Ice pack and painkillers for a day or two. Cant imagine the pain if I HAD actually broken it.
Thanks again all.

Well done, nailit. My 11 year old has done similar on a trampoline on holiday. 6 hours in a&e. X-ray showed no obvious breaks, but looking at his ankle, they thought there might be. He had,a cast and crutches to be safe and being re-x-rayed on Monday. I hope he gets the same result as you- starts new senior school on Tuesday...:-\
