swearing on the radio
11 Answers
Wasn't really sure where to put this but I just wanted to know what peoples views were on words such as a**e and b**ch being frequently used on day time radio stations. I'm not all high and mighty about swearing and I know that these words in particular might not even be classed as swearing any more but I do think it's inappropriate for these words to be used so much on day time radio (and tv) shows when young ears might be listening. I'd be horrified if my 7 year old niece said bitch because she heard it on the radio. She has of course been taught better then to say such words but it doesn't really help when they're bounded around for all to hear.

Because I think there might be different 'rules' for different times of the day, it is unlikely that in term time kids would be listening (but I know it it is the holidays now!). They seem to tone it down both in the morning and in the 'drivetime' kind of time. On a personal level - a**e I don't mind, i think b**ch is pushing it a bit - since unless its a vet program, you cannot be using b**ch without it being an insult, whereas a**e you can. If I had kids and they were sayint a**e it would be annoying and embarrassing but better than going and calling their sister a b**ch...!
I presume your probably refering to Radio 1, i might be wrong but they do swear a lot. I stopped listening to radio 1 a few weeks ago since i found Radio 6 on DAB. Its great! They have more than 10 songs in their playlist and dont over play and over hype bands (Arctic Monkeys) and so far dont swear. Please give it a go and stop listening to Chav FM (Radio 1)
My mothers house backs onto a Catholic Primary School playing field and believe you me children have full knowledge of ALL swear words, this was just the same when I first started school back in the early 50's. I grew up knowing these words but I certainly knew them to 'naughty' words and never said them in front of adults .......... Well if I did I only used them the once :-)
