How Can I Strike A Bamboo Plant From A Neighbouring Plant

Our neighbours have a lovely bamboo plant and we have taken some cuttings in the hope that we can get a plant to fill a gap in a neighbouring fence. Anyone out there got a clue how we can do it.??

You can't im afraid. Bamboos won't root from cuttings.

Instead, you will have to dig up a rooted stem or divide the main plant

It's dead easy to grow from a root (if you want, I can send you some, we're digging them up). The roots are only 1cm below the surface. You can't do it from cuttings.

Roots grow like the clappers though, scrivens, and dinki can have some of mine they want 'em.

Instead of trying to root a cutting from a stem, I think its a whole lot easier to chop out a piece (thats already rooted) with a spade, from the edge of a clump.

Pretty soon you'l have your own little clump, but be warned, it can spread very fast unless you contain it in a sunken pot!
