Here in the U.S., we're quite concerned about a new virus that noticeably began about 3 months or so ago. As of now, it's affecting youth and children, but as it develops it could affect everyone. Seems most of our new virus' immigrate from either Europe or Asia so this could be related to what you're seeing…

EBV (the Epstein-Barr virus) seems to appear among clusters of people from time to time, with symptoms similar to those you describe (especially if there's also extreme tiredness). So glandular fever (which is what EBV causes in in adults, because its effects can go almost unnoticed in children) is one possibility. It's becoming more common these days because, due to higher hygiene standards, fewer children contract it (when it would hardly harm them anyway), leaving them without any immunity as adults (when it knocks them for six).

No, not necessarily.

There are plenty of common viruses and indeed bacterial infections that may causes these symptoms and it is almost certainly an out break of a well known organism.

Do you have a sort of sore throat but it`s not sore? Not scratchy, just a sort of hurt either side quite low down? Damn, think I might be going down with it. I didn`t know there was something going around.

My son came home from school last week with aches, pains, sniffles, sore throat and coughing, oh seems to have got it now so no doubt I will be next.
It has to do with the kids going back to school and passing the virus' amongst themselves. It happens every year at this time.

Ok Thankyou to you all.. I am suffering from it at the moment ...worse luck.! Had glandular fever when I was 21. And now a lot older.!
No ebola Peter !........ I hope anyway.
237SJ..yes my glands are aching and the throat feels like it is going to become sore but it hasnt. Its just the awful ache from my neck up....and no not my husband this time!!
It is strange the way my temp just keeps going up really high and then goes back down.
My head feels like it is going to burst.!
But yet again another virus I expect.
