Can anyone tell me how bombing Islamic State fanatics in northern Iraq will make Britain safer from attacks?
To me this will only inflame the issue.
/// The Defence Secretary Mr Fallon told the Spectator magazine: 'We've had attacks on the streets of London, on our transport system, at Glasgow Airport, the murder of Lee Rigby – how much more evidence do you need that this is a very clear and dangerous threat to our way of life and to all the democracies of the West.
'This is a new Battle of Britain. ///
Doesn't he realise that we fought the Battle of Britain over the sky's of Southern England, not over some distant land?

I retract nothing from my earlier comments jno. These monsters are running amok and have murdered 1000's of innocent people. They need to be stopped, as they are not capable of listening to reason. And if that means boots of the ground, the so be it. All free nations should be doing their fair share...even the former cheese-eating surrender monkeys are taken some action !
dealing with the ISIL fighters may well require boots on the ground, but I cannot fathom how this can work. ISIL fighters are not like any conventional opponent, they don't wear uniforms and aren't billeted in military establishments - they're just more men with beards wearing the shalwar kameez, totally indistinguishable from the regular population and who melt away as soon as our "boots" come calling.
I've already made my position clear, but I add the old quote 'For Evil to triumph it is only necessary that good people do nothing.' We have no choice. I'm not a strategist, military person or anything like that (I'm all for sweet reason and have lived and worked like that all my life) so I don't know how to go about it, but they will come for us eventually if we do nothing. I can see how the issue could become inflamed, but even Al Quaeda repudiates ISIL, which is surely a positive. Please read the poem 'First they came for the Jews'. We could end up fighting a massively engorged, alien enemy power over the skies of Southern England. At least we are being invited to help by other Islamic states. Bad news about the French hostage.
I think that the idea is to take them on and defeat them, not merely to irritate them by lobbing a few bombs at them.
It'll certainly make things dodgy for a while, but I guess this is the price we pay for not taking action earlier to help the Syrian opposition.
I don't understand the bit about the Battle of Britain. We also fought WWII in lots of far fling places all over the world, which I guess is why it was called World War II, of which the Battle of Britain was but one - albeit it vital - part.
