Try restarting it... Press and hold the Power button for a full 20 seconds. Your Kindle Fire will shut down while you hold the Power button, which is normal. After 20 seconds, release the Power button. Press the Power button again to restart your Kindle Fire.

My son had the same problem. If Jomlett's suggestion doesn't work, phone the Amazon Kindle helpline. They will tell you to try other things too, and if they don't work they will replace it - assuming it's still under warranty. And perhaps they will even if it's not. Kindle Fires seem to be notorious for this .
