Typing On My Ipad

Recently it has become a problem typing anything, including this question, on my iPad, as it won't let me see what I have typed. The keyboard covers the typing area. This can't be normal?
.
I have to drop the keyboard down to see if I have made any mistakes. Very annoying.
Any thoughts?

Mine pushes the typing box to the top.

Mine does this since I updated to IOS 8.0 - it's annoying but you can drag it up into view.

You can always reset to factory settings in settings
