Double Glazing Etc

We recently had a small local firm to renew handles and hinges on our windows. They were so pleasant we asked them to replace our wooden front door and its side panel.
It looked pretty good but after less than a month on one side the seal from the door to the wall had shrunk and a black oil like substance had leaked down from top to bottom. We finally got them back and they wiped up the black substance and resealed leaving thumb prints all down the side, and muttering all the time non stop 'Oh I've never seen anything like this before in all the years (Ten apparently) I've been doing this job. Within two days the black stuff is leaking again. Does any one have any idea what it can be, or how to stop it? Should we ask them to call again, as the last time they weren,t so pleasant and the repair didn't look a very professional finish and it cost us a lot of money

after less than month, I'd want them to be very nice to me, sort the problem out without charging me extra, or I would be calling in Trading Standards,

Don't be intimidated by them Tooj. Any decent tradesman would be more interested in getting it right. It's hardly your fault. It's just terribly unprofessional to moan like that.

Keep on at them. If it comes to it, Trading Standards are there for things like this. All very unpleasant though.

I'm afraid I can't even imagine what the black oily stuff is without taking a look.

The only thing I think it could be is resin seeping from the wooden frame.

Thanks people.I will call them again but I will no doubt find it upsetting.built Incidently the wooden door has now gone and there was no resin on it as it had been here since the house was built .
