Ronnie it is indeed a hard battle you are fighting, I always think so much more with drink sometimes as other things - simply as drink is seen by most as fun, party time and relaxing not the dreadful enemy it can become.
I send you extra strength to keep up the fight. x

Apologies for side tracking Ronnie.
Bednobs
No Worst, there is None – Gerard Manley Hopkins
No worst, there is none. Pitched past pitch of grief,
More pangs will, schooled at forepangs, wilder wring.
Comforter, where, where is your comforting?
Mary, mother of us, where is your relief?
My cries heave, herds-long; huddle in a main, a chief
Woe, wórld-sorrow; on an áge-old anvil wince and sing —
Then lull, then leave off. Fury had shrieked ‘No ling-
ering! Let me be fell: force I must be brief.”‘
O the mind, mind has mountains; cliffs of fall
Frightful, sheer, no-man-fathomed. Hold them cheap
May who ne’er hung there. Nor does long our small
Durance deal with that steep or deep. Here! creep,
Wretch, under a comfort serves in a whirlwind: all
Life death does end and each day dies with sleep.

ronnie, I struggle myself with drink. Its easy for others to judge. I drink to cope with social anxiety issues which arnt apparent to others, I drink to cope with lonliness, again it isnt apparent to others. I go for some time without drinking and then drink as a means of release from emotions that I cant handle. Everyone is different. Ive lost several friends in the past through drink. My best mate was sober for years then his wife left him and took his daughter with her (and everything that was in the house...literally) He hit the bottle again and his family gave him the 'tough love' baloney. I helped carry his coffin a few months later when he died. His families tears meant nothing. They werent there when he was in hospital after suicide attempts (I was) They werent there when he got sent to prison (I was) They werent there when he died...I WISH I was, I might have prevented it.
I hate this idea that all alcoholics are manipulative addicts who need to be distanced from. Sometimes a bit of (genuine) love goes a long way. Not this 'tough love' cobblers that goes around and is at best an excuse to extricate yourself from somebody in a crisis and at worse an excuse to be horrible to the said person.
Ok rant over.
Ive just got a bee in my bonnet over this as Ive lost several friends through drink over the years and for different reasons.
