I love to see the kids come round at Halloween. Are you for it or against?

Against. It used to be 'Mischief night' and the worst that happened was that kids would knock on your door and run away, ducking-down behind the the wall/fence and chortling when the door was opened. Fairly harmless and I did join in once, for about half an hour, then I got bored and went home.

Now it seems to me to be bad training for life - give me this or else - highwaymen used to demand 'Your money or your life'. I can't see any difference.

If my door was knocked on I gave them a lecture on American v British customs and the history - (very nicely) - they went away, I hope they went with a bit more knowledge. Fortunately it doesn't happen here.
NJ....my kids are in their thirties and forties now.....and the grandchildren are getting on........not one has graduated to using menacing behaviour....

It makes me sad for you that you seem so miserable.......xxxx
Your children are obviously well brought up, gness. Alas that cannot be said for all of them and you cannot guarantee which of the two varieties will be on your doorstep.

No need to be sad for me. I'm happy as Larry and will remain that way so long as other people's children don't annoy me by knocking on my door uninvited. It's only other people's perception that portrays me as miserable and that suits me because it discourages them from doing so.
i love to see the happy kids and their costumes, they are now accompanied by adults so are safe, some miserable people don't seem to like children.
