divebuddy- I would argue that this thread did not degenerate into abuse aimed at Nigel. It started that way with my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jibe right in the question.
Chilldoubt - I for one applaud your post from 20:31, because it's a valid point of view. One which I undersand, but do not empathise with, as I grew up in a very racially diverse area of South London.
My main issue with UKIP, is that (without meaning to) they have attracted support from members of the public whose views I vehemently disagree with, and who vocalise their views in a way that I can't ignore.
And of course there's the other more pertinent thing...
...I don't want the UK to leave Europe.
So like I mentioned before, and on other threads - the rise of UKIP is fantastic for British politics, because now, everyone can feel properly represented.
The only thing that would concern me, is if they won the next General Election. I would genuinely be concerned about a cabinet of brand new MPs taking over the management of foreign policy initiatives, the NHS, food and fisheries, education, the environment etc.
They would have support from the civil service, but you need ministers to develop strategy.
For me, it would be like being on a 747 over the mid Atlantic, sacking all the flight crew and asking Simon, a trading standards officer from East Sussex, sitting in seat 27E to take over the controls.
