Who Was It?

That sang the cowboy song and battered his head with a tin tray. I can remember seeing someone doing it on stage many, many years ago but don't know who it was.
Mrs Brown did a bit of it tonight and it reminded me.
Any ideas folks?

OMG, I used to really worry as a child and watched that man on so many shows. I tried it just once with a tin tray and ended up like a carton character with little black dots flying around my head. Ouch ! it hurt. His head must've been numbed over the years.
