whether it is better is subjective and down to individual choice.
personally I am happy with freeview, my catch up options, my twin tuner digi box allowing me to record many many hours of stuff, and my cheap subscription film service where I can watch free films or rent new ones. Not bad for £1 a day.

I am saying that the majority of channels on sky, of which you, like most people, only watch a few, ARE rubbish, made up of repeats, american imports and such. The same could be said for freeview TBH, but the difference is you are not paying for them each month.
I also happen to think that even being choosy, there is enough to choose from on terrestial telly and with planning and recording, you can always find stuff to watch. At the moment I have about a hundred and fifty hours of programmes I haven't got round to watching yet.
BTW I am not tight....even if mega rich I'd avoid sky and virgin.
