(i.e. your laptop 'talked' to the router, which in turn 'talked' to the printer).
Assuming that to be the case, your printer is still able to talk to your router, so you only need to be able to get the 'new-laptop-to-router' connection functioning. There are two steps but you've probably already done the first one anyway. (If your new laptop can connect to the internet you most definitely have). So that means that you just need to install the driver for your printer onto your new laptop. If you can find the disc that came with your printer, put it into your new laptop's drive and simply follow the instructions to install the printer software. (If you encounter the choice of selecting either 'wireless' or 'LAN', make sure that you select 'wireless').
If you've not got the disc, you can download what you need from here:
http:// www.can on.co.u k/Suppo rt/
First select your type of printer (which is likely to be 'Pixma')
Then select the exact model.
Check that the 'Software & Drivers' tab is selected.
Enter your operating system and language.
Then download the printer driver file. (The description will say something like "This file contains the Setup application, MP Drivers and IJ Network Tool necessary for setting your printer up on a network").
Once you've downloaded it, double-click on it to run it and then restart your laptop.
You should then have the required connection between your laptop and your printer.
