Annie was previously a white girl with ginger hair, now a black actress is portraying her nothing wrong with that one may say, but then it is when this kind of thing kicks off.
What will be the fall out if we ever get a black James Bond, which has been suggested?

/// No-one is offended by the Black & White Minstrel Show. ///
Really?

/// People should only be offended by real racism now - as opposed to (say) posting multiple threads on AB complaining about Oscar winning films like '12 Years A Slave'. ///
I presume you are referring to me? I make no apology regarding my hate towards Films and TV programmes on the subject of white man's past enslavement and ill treatment of Africans.
These only encourage people to get all enraged again, it happened in the distant past and we should now learn to put it in the past, rather than raking it up over and over again.
Films showing black savagery towards the white man would not be allowed and quite rightly so, so why should white man's savagery towards black persons be allowed?

I understand the point you think you're making.
To clarify - the Black & White Minstrel Show is not on any more, so therefore doesn't offend current viewers. It's still offensive though, and it goes to prove that the standards that previons generations had was WAY off mark.
To whit - Mini-Pops...a TV music show where prepubescent children in full make up would mime to adult pop songs whilst dressed in wholly inappropriate costumes.
I'd forgotten that show, but it's referenced in your link.
No wonder there are no so many revelations of child sex abuse from the 70s and 80s coming to light!
And don't get me started on 'Doctor at Large'!!!

//Are there not enough leading actors of Middle Eastern extraction? //
personally, I have no idea. but it's been widely reported that's what ridley scott was told when he was casting the movie - it would take a brave or foresighted financial backer to bankroll a movie in which the target audience are unlikely to have heard of the actor playing the leading part.
