With, I moved from west coast to east coast Scotland, was shocked that they didn't put sausages in their steak pies. Just thought it was the done thing. We're having it tomorrow, whole family round, meat cooking in slow cooker, sausages already done.
I remember that the caterers at my club boasted about their steak and kidney pies, with added black pudding. Nearly everyone fell for the con; every pie has a limited capacity, and for every piece of black pudding there was one less piece of beef, black pudding being considerably cheaper.
I always make it without the sausages, but in laws Mk1 don't rate a steak pie unless it has sausages in it. Both West coast so it isn't a West/East thing.
Ours was fab 10 adults and 6 grandkids, sausages helped it go further, served with chips and beans. Lots of puddings and cheese selection. Had a great night, and got to cuddle the latest addition to the family, born on Boxing Day, little Rudi. Four generations all round the table. Couldn't ask for more.
Oh yeah can't beat steak and sausage pie with chips and beans, though must admit I cheated and used frozen chips, when cooking for that about it's the easiest way to get it all out hot, oh and extra gravy.
