I bought a 2013 plate car from a main dealership in april for cash. Its awful to drive. Ive had the engine checked they said it was within tolerance. I paid £8000 for it and they offered me £5000 for it if i want to sell it back to the dealership. When checking through the paperwork i've discovered that it was an ex hire car (AVIS) im very upset that i was never told this before buying it. I wouldn.t have bought it. Also discovered that i'm thinking i'm driving around in a 1.4 as it clearly states this on the paperwork and its actually a 1.2. Additional to this none of my paperwork has been signed by the dealership. I feel like ive been ripped off. Legally is there anything i can do?????? thanks in anticipation (i am female)
Go back to the dealership & state the car is NOT A 1.4 as in the Ad & you wanted a full refund, take a witness with you, if the they start acting the goat just tell them that you will be contacting T.S. are you a member of the AA RAC ? Get them to confirm that the car is a 1.2 not a 1.4 regards telling you it was an Ex hire car, they are not obliged to do that, I would also get the mileage checked on this car! what is the mileage?
i wanted a 1.4 and thought it was a 1.4. im not a member of AA or RAC. I bought the car in april and didnt check paperwork till last few weeks. So guess ultimatly ive left things too late and in future will always check paperwork. Just feel like ive been done over
Ah ok, the dealer would have had the V5 at the time of purchase, he would then fill in your details and send it to the DVLA, I'm guessing you didn't know that, and can see why he didn't offer it for inspection.
Ilove, this is a lesson learnt the hard way, never jump in when purchasing a car or whatever, why? you have found out, check your car out if you intend to Exchange, check the likes of Auto Trader / ebay, is will give you an Idea of what your car is worth regards Condition / Mileage / Owners, do not buy from the side of the road Re/ Mobile Numbers, Take Someone with you ( I am a female) Your words, for obvious reasons.
With nearly two years having lapsed since the vehicle was purchased, I don’t think you can expect any redress from the seller.
In relation to the vehicle being an ex-hire car – honest John (he of the Daily Telegraph) reckons that being subject to differing driving styles while running in, results in improved running in versus being driven by the same person; so rather than being upset by this, you should view it as a positive.
and never pay cash......always credit card. that way you have redress through the card. but having the car for two years and only bringing things up now.....you have no chance of a refund.
bigger the facade, bigger the crooks. Did you not test drive this car? I mean did it suddenly become awful to drive? This is a clear case of Caveat emptor I'm afraid, the anomoly with engine size may give you some sway but I doubt you can force a full refund out of them.
