People seem to be under the impression that you can 'ask' to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
This is emphatically not the case.....well you can ask....but the decision as to whether to admit you or not is in the hands of the Dr examining you at the time.
Involuntary admission or sectioning is, as has been said, the last step in a long sequence of events and, in a nutshell only used when you are a significant danger to yourself or to others.
Please take the advice of others here and make a start by contacing your GP.
They will be best placed to assess your condition and if necessary make a referral to the local counselling , psychology or psychiatric services.
Help is out there and it does work.
Good luck.
