How do you process cooking oil to run in a car?

There's endless info. about this on the web, just go and look.

However, to do it legitimately, I believe you now have to pay the Inland Revenue the standard tax on it (as applied to commercial fuel) so it ends up costing as much as buying diesel. But if you don't wish to do it legitimately, then obviously it's loads cheaper!

There was a TV programme on last night (Tues.) that gave a demonstration on how to process chipshop oil to 'biodiesel'.

BBC2 20:30 Tues. "It's not easy being green".

They took used chipshop oil and processed it to run in a diesel landrover Cost per litre was about 70p after duty and taxes.

Why should we have to pay the same duty and taxes on vehicle fuel from chipshops as from oil from the ground?

More seriously, that is a very good point. I believe (and you won't be surprised to hear this, I suspect) the UK is the only country in the EU that levies the same tax on bio fuels as on mineral based fuels. An increasing number of people are objecting to this. But as I say, he needs the money, so he's unlikely to drop the tax.
