In view of the recent dreadful events in France, does anyone know if the fatwa issued against the author was ever rescinded?

I thought these fatwas were rarely, if ever, lifted.

Bigotry has both a long memory and reach.
So far as I am aware it is still extant.
I don't think it actually matters in terms of his personal safety. I'm sure there are plenty of nutjobs out there who don't care about the official or current status of the fatwa.

Probably made a fortune off of a book too boring and uncontroversial to finish, too.
I was too busy to finish it, OG, I had to get started on A Brief History of Time. I didn't get through that, either, as I had to read Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
Oh I did read through Brief History. Did get to understand one new thing; what the process of evaporation of black holes was. Overall I think the book caused more discussion that it warranted. Much was a restatement of stuff well known in the popular science books already around. But that's a different subject I guess.
