So this top footballer award thing?

In two earlier years, with a total lack of imagination, they just give it to the most expensive player, from the most expensive club.

Christiano Ronaldo

Yawn, bore, yada yada yada, wake me when it's over.

So this year, ladies and gentlemen, we have racked our brains, and scoured the clubs of the world, and the winner is ...

Christiano Ronaldo

I would give it to Andrea Pirlo of Juventus.

Voted for by National Captains and Managers and club captains.
Ronaldo is the best footballer at the moment, it is the general consensus.
It is also the case that the best players play for the wealthiest clubs and earn the top wages. Boring, yes. Will it change, NO.
That is not what the award is about though, sqad.

The FIFA Ballon d'Or (French pronunciation: [balɔ̃ dɔʁ], "Golden Ball") is an annual association football award given by FIFA to the male player considered to have performed the best in the previous calendar year. It is awarded based on the votes from national team coaches and captains, as well as journalists from around the world.

Not one footballer could match the statistics of Manuel Neuer when you compare them against their peers.

I was merely suggesting one of many criteria on which you would place your vote.
Posted this yesterday. A well deserved award.

Definitely Runner Up Best Answer

(another somewhat pointless award, sorry, but Best Answer has already gone)
Footballer in 'prestigious award given to most outstanding candidate' shocker

Best player in the world over the past year

Why should the award not go to him just because he's won it before?
