I'm actually sadder than I thought possible by this news. Ann kirkbride is not much older than me and has been part of Coronation Street for most of my adult life. Deirdre's daughter toxic Tracey is only bit older than my daughter (she was pregnant whilst I was desperately trying to become so). Heartfelt condolences to Anne's husband and family

It is so sad, I've giggled a few times at her neck when she was in a rage, but she was a good actress and her 'Corrie' life has had us on tenterhooks or close to tears at times, what will Corrie be like without her. Not knowing she was ill I thought last night that it was time she was back, she will be missed

Actor William Roache will lead tributes to Anne Kirkbride at tomorrow's National Television Awards.

Organisers are currently planning incorporating the tributes, which will feature other members of the Coronation Street cast, to the actress who played Deirdre Barlow for more than 40 years.

It was understood Corrie bosses have been in talks with the show organisers, which will air on ITV1 tomorrow night, to include a tribute to the actress.
